Chris’ intellectual property law practice focuses on patent and trademark prosecution as well as portfolio development, strategy, and advising. Chris prosecutes patent applications involving a variety of technological fields, including electronic and software-enabled devices, medical devices, chemistry, and biotechnology.
Chris gained valuable experience in protecting and commercializing cutting-edge inventions derived from research performed at a world-renowned university through his work with the University of Illinois Office of Technology Management (OTM). While at the OTM, Chris was honored to work with companies ranging in size from startups to the Fortune-10. Although Chris worked with many technologies over the course of his career with the OTM, a large portion of his work was in the medical device, materials science, and small molecule drug spaces. In addition to providing him with legal experience prosecuting patent applications, performing patentability and freedom to operate evaluations, and licensee identification and licensing preparation, Chris' work with the OTM performing marketability analyses provided him with insight into the practical business of commercializing inventions.
As a student at the University of Illinois College of Law, Chris was awarded the Barich Excellence in Patent Law Award in 2018 in recognition of his growing expertise in patent law, as well as the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for Patent Law.
Prior to law school, Chris had an opportunity to combine his BS in Chemistry from Lewis University with his interest in human health and medicine by working in a diagnostic testing and analytical laboratory analyzing health samples from patients to identify acute and chronic conditions in order to generate diagnostic reports including treatment recommendations for physicians.
